Chinese Commons Study Network
A Chinese Commons Study Network was established in 2017 and up to now includes 60 Chinese scholars studying on commons. It was facilitated by the team of Prof. Yahua Wang at Tsinghua University via a WeChat group, the most popular cell phone APP in China, and a public account. The WeChat group is used for daily discussion and connection, while the public account is for pushing articles, reviews and announcements related to the team.
In the year of the 50th anniversary of the ‘Tragedy of the Commons’-publication by Hardin, the public account is planning to push summaries of the key literatures in Chinese to highlight the importance and the historical processes of the commons studies. So far, there have been seven pieces of the literature on staged reviews of the commons studies summarized with over tens of thousand readers browsing.
The following messages planned to push to our audio will be the summaries of reviews on methodology for the commons studies. These messages are gradually promoting the concept framework, the research traditions and the theory of the commons studies to scholars in Chinese.
Reading colloquium
On April 29, 2018, a reading colloquium on Enhancing Commons Governance: Elinor Ostrom’s Scholarship and Applications was successfully organized at Tsinghua University. This was a reading colloquium on the Chinese Memorial Book on Elinor Ostrom. Prof. Yahua Wang, the author of the memorial book, introduced the book on three aspects – the writing process of the book, the academic value of Prof. Elinor Ostrom, and the achievements of the commons studies in China. Over 30 scholars took part in the colloquium and discussed together on the thoughts of Elinor Ostrom and its application for Chinese social governance and rural reforms.
